Spotlight story:

A new single story e-Book from my book "Shadow Stories."

The nineteenth century English countryside is the setting of this captivating tale that blends mystery, fantasy, and romance. A married couple and their friend witness a strange occurrence outside the friend's home, after which they find a little girl, alone and frightened. Presumed to be orphaned, she is taken in by the wealthy couple, the Abernathys, who name her Jane. An unusual child, and also mute, she is put in the care of Anne Hargrove, a widow who, along with her little boy Will, moves into the Abernathy guest house with Jane. The story is told from both Anne and Will's points of view from a standpoint of looking into the past. In their recollection of Jane and Will's childhood together, they describe Jane's unusual physical traits and abilities. Jane also has an emerging psychic intuition, but she has nightmares, the contents of which she cannot express. They subside, but as Jane nears puberty, they return and are worse, concerning Anne, who also sees Mrs. Abernathy becoming less concerned for Jane. The nightmares lead to the discovery of secrets that have been kept by someone in Jane's midst about what happened to her family.
Meanwhile, as Jane and Will mature, they begin to have romantic feelings for one another.

He tends to sabotage himself when it comes to relationships, and is now even at odds with his brother, Scott, over Alison, Scott's ex with whom Brian has just ended a relationship. Then Brian is diagnosed with brain cancer and given maybe one year to live. As he comes to terms with his fate, he examines his life decisions and unresolved issues, and with his time running out, he makes one last effort to get things right. Dealing with long buried emotions, he tackles the sibling rivalry between himself and Scott and grapples with his feelings for Alison. He begins to accept his self-perceived flaws and finds out he's more like his father than he thought he was. Along the way he feels himself growing closer to the memory of the father he thinks he disappointed and about whom he learns a secret. "All The Things I Meant To Be" is a story about a family's emotional journey of love, loss, regret, forgiveness, and remembering not to take anything for granted.
